RISK Operational Risk Management (RISK ORM) CIB acts as the second line of defence of BNP Paribas Corporate and Institutional Bank (CIB). It belongs to the Risk Function (RISK) of BNP Paribas and is placed under the responsibility of the Head of RISK ORM CIB, who reports to the Chief Risk Officer of CIB.
The department is responsible for independently challenging and supervising the Operational Risk management of CIB activities (Global Banking, Global Markets, Securities Services, Information Technology (IT), Operations and Functions) on a worldwide scope.
Specifically, the RISK ORM Global Markets team covers Global Markets activities from a front to back perspective.
The Operational Risk Officer contributes to the implementation of all the components of Operational Risk & Permanent Control Framework in BNP Paribas CIB activities under Global Markets (GM), providing supervision over the 1st Line of Defence in terms of Operational Risk.

The Operational Risk Officer is a risk professional in charge of independently overseeing and supervising the fraud risk management activities by CIB businesses in their scope.

The role requires:

  • An understanding of the risk and the business activities / processes in their remit.
  • Knowledge of CIB organization where the risk is identified.
  • Anticipation and intelligence on Operational risks (via external sources / events / seminars / training);
  • Ability to check and challenge the risk assessment provided by 1st Line of Defence (1LoD); and
  • the ability to provide a risk opinion.

The generic responsibilities of the role include:

Anticipation and Awareness

  • Perform and cascade internal / market watch and intelligence relevant to Global Markets
  • Participate and contribute to the risk community at CIB and/or Group level, sharing with other Operational Risk Officers covering other Business Lines.
  • Participate and provide a risk opinion in TAC/NAC when requested.


  • Perform the quality review of historical incidents and share results with OPCs and management. Challenge the different aspects of significant incidents.
  • Alert senior management in case of significant historical incidents.
  • Contribute to the performance of 2LoD Controls (independent testing) with the aim of enhancing the control framework.

Risk management

  • Be responsible for Operational Risk and Permanent Control management framework for GM activities inEMEA, including normative framework
  • (CCCO, OPC teams, Business & Operations, Front Office) to develop trust and confidence.
  • Ensure contribution of RISK ORM GM to transversal initiatives proposed and foster the contribution of the team to innovation
  • Check and challenges the Risk and Control Self Assessment (RCSA) provided by the 1LoD, by challenging the Intrinsic Risk and the Control Framework rating, agreeing on the Residual Risk and Action plan to mitigate the identified residual risks.
  • Follow-up on actions plans, recommendations (issued by Regulator, Inspection Generale or RISK ORM)
  • Assist in the development of Key Risk Indicators
  • Masters in Economics, Finance and Accounting
  • Banking and Financial Operations – at least 3 years
  • Expertise in Global Markets
  • English (Fluent)
