The overall job purpose it to assist the Global Equities and the Fixed Income Currencies and Commodities (FICCC) – Trading Risk Strategy (TRS) teams in their mandate to steer the risk and returns of trading positions.  

This is achieved first by overseeing the production of daily reports of main positions and stress-tests of trading desks, and weekly production of an extended review of those trading desks positions and P&L (profit & Loss). The role holder will be accountable for ensuring excellence on all trading risk strategy activities that they undertake or directly oversee and ensuring that these activities align with the Bank and its clients’ objectives, approved risk appetites, and strategic goals.

Your Main Activities Are

Accountable for providing support, with autonomy, in relation to all trading risk strategy activities in relation to assigned areas of BNP Paribas Global Markets:

  • Assessing how risk and resources (R&R) are being allocated and managed by business lines, including by advising on pricing. Accountable for challenging the business’ allocation of R&R to ensure optimisation of return on R&R allocation in a manner that drives the Bank’s business strategy
  • Analysing risk measures linked to capital consumption of Bank’s activities and ensuring that return is optimised for capital allocation
  • Working with relevant stakeholders to ensure that relevant regulations are adhered to, and future regulations are anticipated and planned for, in relation to R&R management and capital allocation
  • Preparing for and contributing to relevant internal committees in relation to R&R and capital allocation matters
  • Proposing and driving the implementation of solutions to facilitate new trades when the risk appetite of the bank is reached
  • Understanding and monitoring the main characteristics and concentrations of the risk portfolio managed by the team
  • Prepare periodic as well as ad-hoc (as required by senior management or instructed) reports on individual counterparties, sectors and / or country crises on findings to assist the team’s management of risk
  • Contribute to the reporting of main risks and stress-tests across global markets
  • Maintain, improve and develop toolbox for an efficient risk management
  • Continuously identify, propose, and implement innovative or alternative ideas to improve the Bank’s risk processes and reduce inaccuracies
  • Operates autonomously, taking instruction from senior colleagues for particularly complex transactions or new activities
  • Develops a broad network of relationships with relevant stakeholders and key contacts
  • At all times complies with all applicable legal, regulatory and internal compliance requirements (including the Code of Conduct) and ensures that all work undertaken is in line with the Bank and team’s strategic goals and approved risk limits

Profile and Skills to Success

  • Master’s in finance, economics, Computer Science or Engineering
  • Knowledge of programming languages (strong Plus) – Python and VBA, SQL 
  • Attention to Detail
  • Curiosity
  • Ability to communicate clearly in both oral and written form (in English)
  • Ability to improve processes- problem-solving mindset (as they’ll need to debug or to develop codes that were written by others)
  • Be organized and methodical in data production
  • Be able to provide clear and concise analysis
  • Demonstrate a genuine interest in financial markets activities and show motivation to learn new regulations and market practices/products
